St. Anthony Park Community Council is hiring a part-time Community Organizer. This position will report to the Executive Director, but will also take direction from Committee Co-Chairs as needed for some activities. Ideal candidate will be self-motivated, have excellent planning/organizational skills, and maintain a high level of professionalism with a positive attitude.
Part-time @ $15/hr. Ability to work some evening and weekend hours required.
Job Responsibilities:
Program
- Serve as ambassador and primary contact person to and for the neighborhood.
- Identify issues of importance to St. Anthony Park and follow issues through civic, political, and neighborhood meetings. Inform Executive Director as needed.
- Facilitate the flow of information between residents, businesses, neighborhood groups, and local levels of government per direction of Executive Director.
- Manage participation by volunteers in all areas of the Council’s work.
- Coordinate programs, activities, and events for projects as they arise.
- Assist with grant reporting for programs you manage.
- Manage interns assigned to programs you manage.
Committee Support
- Support four committees: Land Use, Equity, Transportation, and Environment.
- Confirm agendas with committee chairs at least 1 week in advance of meetings.
- Send out meeting reminders with agendas (plus attachments such as variance request for Land Use) three days in advance of meeting dates.
- Communicate with committee guests as needed, provide agendas.
- Print any materials for distribution at the meetings.
- Send out minutes after meetings with action item summary.
- Follow up on action items with appropriate contacts, including sending resolutions from the Board, check in on committee actions as needed.
- Confer with committees on grant opportunities that arise within their topic areas.
- Maintain official committee records, including agendas and minutes.
Communication
- Write, edit, and send a monthly enewsletter on the 15th of every month, featuring local organizations/projects (including Community Garden, Transition Town, SAPAS, other partners), updates from committees and Board, neighborhood events. Maintain newsletter archive on the Council website.
- Write and submit Council news to the Bugle by the first week of the month for the following month’s issue.
- Post notifications to social media accounts and neighborhood lists (Yahoo, Nextdoor) for all committee and Board meetings and special events.
- Maintain the Council website with events, committee meetings/agendas and project information, archives of committee and Board minutes.
Administration
- Stay current with technology, perform or request updates to website and computers systems/software, and assure adequate and secure backups are maintained.
- Maintain multiple email accounts.
Experience:
- BA/BS Degree in human resources/organizational development/business management or related degree area /or 4 or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience in community development, and/or diversity and inclusion
- Experience in meeting and event management required and a proven ability to successfully organize events is highly desirable
- Proficient in MS Office, Word Press, and Mail Chimp
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated capacity to take initiative and work with a high sense of urgency
- Outstanding thought leadership and passion for diversity and inclusion; demonstrated effectiveness leading diversity and inclusion related initiatives and programs is a plus
- Excellent project management, analytical and organizational skills
- Able to work collaboratively and proactively, while balancing a variety of priorities and workload
- Demonstrated experience using facts and analytics to understand trends and develop solutions that lead to measurable impact on an organization
- Be able to enhance diversity and inclusion in the Community Council to support the strategic growth of the nonprofit
Preferred Qualifications: Skills in social media, fundraising, community engagement a plus.
